MSTI would like to thank the "Yukun" internship program sponsored by the " The Maritime and Aviation Training Fund (MATF) ", Dalian Maritime University, Yukun seafarers & instructors, Hong Kong Marine Department, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the Hong Kong Seamen's Union to put a lot of effort into this project.
The "Yu Kun" internship program was successfully resumed this year 2023, the opportunity to students of the Higher Diploma of Maritime Training Institute learn and experience the life on board
Students of Higher Diploma in Maritime Studies and students of Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology have just completed their internship life experience at sea. During their internship at sea, students of the Higher Diploma of the Maritime Training Institute learned navigation skills and used various navigation instruments together with students from the Mainland Yukun on the "Yukun" ship. They also experienced the life and duty on board the ship and interacted with experienced seafarers. Intern with mentor.
Through the "Yukun" internship program, interns received practical navigation training and experienced shipboard life. In additional , to learning more about the real working environment, they were arranged to visit other maritime training facilities of Dalian Maritime University and Dalian City and share local history and culture from mailand students.

Three Basic Skills on Emergency Preparedness

The Hong Kong Fire Services Department visited MSTI on May 23, 2023 to hold a safety workshop on "Three Basic Skills on Emergency Preparedness" for our full-time students. The emergency preparedness skills promoted by the Fire Services Department (FSD) can be grouped into three broad categories, namely “Extinguish and Prevent Fire”, “Self-help and Help Others” and “Escape and Evacuate”. Represented by three different colours, i.e. red, yellow and green, these skills are collectively termed the “three basic skills on emergency preparedness”. Getting a good grasp of the “three basic skills on emergency preparedness” will help strengthen your capabilities in dealing with emergencies or contingencies.

Under the arrangement of the Transport and Housing Bureau, and the support of OOCL and Modern Terminals Limited, more than ten second-year students from the MSTI Higher Diploma in Maritime Studies and IVE the Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering were honoured to visit the world's largest container ship - [MV OOCL Japan], the total length of the ship is 400 meters (approximately the height of IFC), and it can hold 21,413 TEUs.
The captain and the chief engineer introduced the operation of the deck and engine room respectively, and also shared the life on board. Unlike the old days, they can access the Internet in the sea now.
