“Vaccine Pass” for students

With effect from 25 March 2022, VTC will implement “Vaccine Pass” for students.   Please visit “COVID-19 Corner” for details. Requirement on the minimum number of vaccine dose(s) for gaining access to VTC campuses/premises will be stepped up by stages.  Students are advised to pay attention to the latest anti-pandemic measures and arrangements and check out the latest information from the “COVID-19 Corner”. Special Arrangement

In view of the latest pandemic situation, Maritime Services Training Institute will further suspend face-to-face classes for the remainder of Semester 2 and teaching and learning through online or other modes will continue.  Individual departments will inform students concerned of the related arrangements. Maritime Services Training Institute will keep monitoring the situation and assessing possible resumption arrangements of practical / laboratory classes in phases after the Easter holidays with regard to actual circumstances and update the teaching and learning arrangements as appropriate.

Notice to Students - Class Arrangements during Compulsory Quarantine / Testing Period

VTC has been closely monitoring the public health situation in Hong Kong.  Considering the potential surge of COVID-19 cases, and your learning, health and safety being our top priority, students of the following categories shall not attend face-to-face classes on-campus during the whole compulsory quarantine / testing period:

  

1)       Confirmed case or a preliminary tested positive case of COVID-19;

2)       Subject to the compulsory quarantine per instruction and advice from the Centre for Health Protection (CHP);

3)       Person subject to compulsory testing under Cap. 599J.

Students being one of the above categories should inform teachers or staff of the Campus Secretariat of your respective campus/institution immediately.  Advice from the CHP on necessary arrangements would also be sought.  Where practicable, alternative learning and assessment arrangements would be provided during the compulsory quarantine / testing period. Upon completion of the compulsory quarantine / testings*, students should inform the campus/institution concerned to resume face-to-face classes on campus.  Thank you for your cooperation.

MSTI will launch a new programme ‘Diploma in Cruise Operations’ to equip students with the cruise operations knowledge and the competences fulfilling the training requirements stipulated by the International Maritime Organization, so as to enable them to serve on board luxurious cruise ships.

Join and Become Maritime Professionals

To introduce the maritime industry and encourage aspiring talents to join and become maritime professionals, the Marine Department (MD) launched thematic webpages on “Maritime Industry”.

The contents of the thematic webpages include the differences between the deck crew and the engineering crew and their career paths for local pleasure vessel operators. The webpages also provide information on the posts and vacancies in the MD, with description of the job duties and entry requirements of the respective posts etc.

This new course is now available to help maritime practitioners to enhance their maritime communication skills so as to reach a standard comparable to satisfactory IELTS examination results.

The first class starts from 22 December 2016 at 18:30 to 21:30 hours, and there will be 2-3 meetings per week (either on Monday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings and/or Saturday PM).

Professional Certificate

 

MSTI has launched the “Professional Diploma in Marine Operations” (PDMO) and Professional Certificate (PC) part-time programmes* for students to enhance their maritime knowledge and increase their competitiveness with higher academic qualifications for further career advancement.

These part-time programmes are cater for you if you are either:

     1.  a professional seafarer (non-higher diploma/degree holder) intending to become shore-based maritime professional, or

     2.  someone with non-maritime background seeking to foster maritime acquaintance. 

Applicants holding the IVE Diploma in Maritime Studies (DMS) or Class 3 Deck Officer Certificate of Competence, or equivalent, plus one year of relevant working experience can be exempted from 50% of the PDMO programme.

Graduates from the PDMO programme may articulate to the top-up degree “Bachelor of Science (Hons) Marine Operations Management” (BScMOM) programme jointly offered by VTC and the Warsash Maritime Academy (WMA) of Southampton Solent University (SSU), United Kingdom.  Please note that admission to BScMOM is subject to meeting specific entry criteria of the programme set by SSU, including but not limited to English proficiency level at International English Language Testing Systems (IELTS) 6.0 (5.5 in each individual element) or equivalent.

After successful completion of this course, candidates may be exempted from five written examinations of CoC Class 3 (Deck Officer) conducted by the Marine Department.
